About the item 

Set of Dutch modernist armchairs by the well-known wood craftsman Ate van Apeldoorn, designed and crafted by hand during the 70s in his own workshop in Hattem, The Netherlands. The designs of Ate van Apeldoorn have a certain robustness due to the the use of untreated pine wood and the abstract geometry of many of his designs. The designs have aged very well and are often considered as rustic and somewhat brutalist in their appeal.

In this specific case it concerns 2 armchairs that could either be used as armchairs or as dining chairs, according to preference. The square geometrical shape of the pine wood frame really stands out. The wood connection on the slats is visible on the outer edges, a typical feature of Van Apeldoorn designs. The seat and backrest are placed slightly tilted within the square frame providing for an interesting contrast in geometry. The chairs have been upholstered in patterned cognac leather upholstery. The construction is very solid.

About its condition 

The chairs are in very good vintage condition, with some patina on the leather.
