About the item

Charlotte Perriand (1903-1999), no introduction needed! The world famous French architect and designer who represented the French modernist movement, designed the Dordogne series in the 50s. Perriand, known for her timeless designs based on minimalism to create maximum visual effects, created a series of minimalistic designs consisting of only wood and rattan  in the 50s. Her Dordogne series, named after a river located in Correze region, France, consisting of a dining chair, armchair stool, sofa and bench were among one of the more famous series designed for the French furniture house Robert Sentou.

The dining chairs in question are the Dordogne dining chairs with their original rattan (or straw/wicker) upholstery and with a tinted ash wood frame and non painted rattan. These specific Dordogne chairs have the flat frame ends, probably indicating that they have been produced during the late 50s as first editions.

The chairs have been handmade however they are build very solidly.

It’s clear that these chairs have strong collectibility among enthousiasts due to their increasing rarity.

About its condition

The chairs are fully original however in excellent condition. The wood has been very well preserved with only minor traces of use. The rattan is still in lovely condition as well, with no structural damage and with a fully solid structure.

The previous owner inherited the chairs from her mother, who bought them new in the late 50s. She confirmed that the chairs were used exclusively used for guest visits and that before use pillows were used to protect the rattan. This probably explains their excellent condition to date.
