115 armchair by Theo Ruth for Artifort 1960s

SOLD TO LONDON, UK

About the item

This stunning armchair was designed by Theo Ruth (1915) and marked one of the first designs by Artifort as a brand.

The 115 armchair is still a classic and has strong following by worldwide enthousiasts.

The 115 was designed in the 50s, originally as a variant on the Congo series, with a wood frame. This wood frame was updated to a metal frame with the second generation in the 60s. This armchair concerns a second generation.

The armchair consists of a large wood frame around which foam is constructed. The top part consists of an outer shell and a separate seating part.

The frame consists of 2 separate metal columns (vertical) and 2 horizontal ones. The horizontal ones are used to affix the top part. The vertical columns are meant to create a visual effect. The vertical columns are freestanding, so they aren’t fixed to the top part. The 4 metal feet seamlessly integrate in the metal frame.

Completely new upholstered in grass green Kvadrat Tonus 954 and Kvadrat Remix 183 black fabric for the seating part. Foam has been replaced as well. The chair features a dark grey metal frame.

The 115 armchairs are not being produced anymore therefore are becoming increasingly rare.

Artifort markings present below chair.
